Poly Ibadan Union meets Government Committee over The implementation of Minimum wage.

The Non – Academic Staff Union of The Polytechnic, Ibadan has on Thursday disclosed a recent development reached in a closed-door meeting of about 5 hours held on 11th February, 2021 by the aggrieved union and the representative of the Government towards resolving their issues and suspension of the ongoing industrial strike action.

The Non – Academic Staff Union who made this known through her Chairman, Com. Akande Ibrahim in a telephone interview with Ascom Press Correspondent, Kehinde Ayanboade, maintained that the union had presented their complaints to the council committee, which they however pleaded to the union to call off the strike.

Com. Akande further noted that the union would call a congress of her members to decide on calling – off the strike and would give subsequent feedback in due time.

“We met with the council committee saddled with the responsibility to discuss our issue and look into a way to resolve our matter; we were in the meeting for 5 hours.

“We had presented our own positions, we had speak to the committee, they pleaded that we should suspend the strike action, we promised to call a congress to inform our member before we can make any order, and we would give subsequent information about the outcome at the congress in due time.”

Recall that the Non – Academic Staff Union of The Polytechnic, Ibadan commenced an industrial strike action on the 11th of January, 2020 over complaints bothering around the non – implementation of the new minimum wage and the imposition of the platinum consultant on the management of the institution.

It is worthy to note that the strike is a month old today.
