Event Hosting Requires Skillset That Varies – Mobola Badekale Bolabad
- We all know the name BOLABAD, how did you come about the name?
My government name is Mobola Badekale, so Bolabad is an acronym of my government name, quite a number of people do not know this though, they hear the name as just assume it is just me adding the word “bad” to my name
PS; I have had the nickname since university days.
- Bolabad as an event & red carpet host, how has it been?
Wow, it has been good and great work keeps me going, we give thanks to God. I have an award to back the statement, as I won Red carpet host of the year at Blingz award 2023.
- Could you outline your hosting style?
Well, I am naturally a calm person, so it reflects in my presentation, I do my research about things, the event I am going to host, so when I am speaking, you could tell I have a knowledge of what the event is really about. I always have a short introduction to start, then I just warm up to the audience, converse with them, not cracking unnecessary jokes, and at the end, we all have fun and get the job done professionally.
- A lot of people believe that all on-air personalities should be able to host events.
Quite a number of on-air personalities are really good event hosts, the likes of Ik Osakioduwa, Nancy Isime, Ebuka Obi Uchendu, and myself of course, but not all on-air personalities can effectively host an event, because hosting an event is different from hosting a radio or tv show, on radio and tv you don’t really get to see your audience, unless it is a television talk show, so crowd control is a major thing in event hosting and that’s where majority get it wrong, there are different of events that requires different set of skills, hosting a wedding for instance is different from hosting a dinner, or a birthday party for a young person and an older citizen will require different skill sets. Quite a number of people do not understand this and they tend to mess and mix it all up.
- What advice would you give upcoming media personalities?
Know what you want, constantly develop yourself, network, get a mentor that has done what you are about to start. It is a crazy world, so grow a thicker skin too if you can and be really good at it because it will surely speak and make ways for you.
